The basic layer of lighting also known as ambient lighting is used to enhance the background illumination. A uniform layer of recessed ceiling lights, under cabinet led strip lighting or wall sconces can easily address this.
Accent lighting draws attention to particular features like paintings, artwork or an interesting item that needs to be highlighted further. Low lights and spotlights will work well in such situations.
Lastly, there is the option of including task lighting for providing illumination for a particular activity. Since living rooms are mostly multi purpose rooms, we can add overhead lamps or table lamps for reading and studying.
Lighting design forms an important part of interior design as it helps us to add another dimension to a particular space. The colours and textures in a room are further enhanced by tasteful lighting. Therefore, it can be easily said that a good lighting design can augment the efforts of interior designers when planning a location. On the other hand, if lighting is ignored ,it can just as easily make a space feel unwelcome and dingy.
